Detailed Itinerary

  • Day 1: Hanoi – Vu Linh (Thac Ba Lake) ~180 km (L/D)

    • We meet in Hanoi at 07:30 for a bike check and safety briefing before leaving the city behind. The ride begins with a gentle warm-up through dike roads, farmland lanes, and quiet riverside paths, avoiding the main highways. This early section lets you settle into the bike with soft gravel, sandy patches, and narrow village curves.

As the Red River Delta fades, the landscape rises into low hills and rural valleys. We continue onto backroads leading toward Thác Bà Lake, Vietnam’s third largest artificial lake, framed by thousands of green islands. Lunch is taken in a local town.

The final stretch is a scenic approach along small concrete lanes and short off-road cuts through eucalyptus forests and lakeside villages. By late afternoon, we arrive in Vu Linh, home of the Dao minority. We settle into a Dao stilt house, enjoy dinner by the lake, and spend the evening with our hosts.

Terrain: village tracks, gravel, small concrete roads
      Accommodation: Dao stilt house (homestay)
      Meals: L, D
  • Day 2: Vu Linh – Off-Road Thac Ba – Ba Be National Park ~210 km (B/L/D)

    • After breakfast, we begin one of the most enjoyable riding days of the loop. The morning takes us along lakeside dirt trails, weaving between forests, small farms, and remote Dao hamlets. This section offers technical but rewarding terrain: rutted dirt, loose stones, narrow single-tracks, and fast-flowing gravel stretches.

Approaching Tuyên Quang, we transition onto quieter provincial roads passing tea plantations and rural markets before pushing north toward Ba Bể. Lunch is in a small town en route.

The afternoon becomes more dramatic as we climb into Ba Bể National Park, with sweeping mountain curves, patches of broken road, and occasional off-road connectors that cut across Tày villages and karst valleys. We enter the park in late afternoon and continue to a Tày family homestay near the lake.

Dinner is served by the fire, with mountain herbs and local specialties.

Terrain: 50% off-road (dirt, trails, farm roads), 50% winding mountain roads
      Accommodation: Tày stilt house (homestay)
      Meals: B, L, D
  • Day 3: Ba Be – Off-Road Trails to Cao Bang ~190 km (B/L/D)

    • We leave Ba Bể after a relaxed morning and quickly drop onto remote backroads heading northeast. The route features some of the finest off-road riding of the region:

            - narrow clay and gravel paths through forest
            - rocky single-track climbs
            - broken mountain roads
            - hidden tracks linking minority villages

Lunch is at a roadside family kitchen, a good break before the more populated approach toward Cao Bằng.

The afternoon continues through remote valleys and expansive tea hills, offering constant scenic contrasts. Entering Cao Bằng province, the karst landscape becomes sharper and more dramatic. The final stretch to the city is smoother, giving a relaxed finish to a demanding day.

Check into a comfortable hotel, shower, and enjoy dinner in town.

      Terrain: 60% off-road, 40% mixed mountain roads
      Accommodation: Hotel in Cao Bằng
      Meals: B, L, D
  • Day 4: Cao Bang – Ban Gioc waterfall– Trung Khanh ~180 km (B/L/D)

    • Today is about scenery. We begin with a winding ascent onto the limestone plateau east of Cao Bằng, then turn off the main road to explore village backroads and cornfield trails leading toward the border region.

By midday, the roar of water signals our arrival at Bản Giốc Waterfall, one of Southeast Asia’s most spectacular cascades. We walk down to the riverbank, take photos, and—if conditions allow—enjoy a bamboo raft experience.

Lunch is nearby before we continue through the Trùng Khánh karst system, riding a mix of paved zigzags and dirt connectors between farming hamlets. The scenery here is exceptional: enormous limestone towers, rice terraces, and quiet, timeless villages.

We reach a local homestay or small guesthouse in Trùng Khánh for the night.

Terrain: 40% dirt and farm trails, 60% twisty scenic roads
      Accommodation: Homestay / guesthouse
      Meals: B, L, D

  • Day 5: Trung Khanh – Bac Kan ~220 km (B/L/D)

    • This is the second most challenging riding day of the tour. We depart Trùng Khánh on remote tracks cutting across valleys, bamboo forests, and isolated H’mong and Tày settlements. The morning includes rocky climbs, stream-cut passes, and narrow ridgelines—nothing too extreme, but consistently technical enough to demand focus.

After lunch along the route, we rejoin a more open stretch of mountain road leading south. The scenery softens: rolling hills, small lakes, farming communities, and the peaceful countryside of Bắc Kạn province.

We arrive in Bắc Kạn town in the late afternoon and settle into a hotel. Dinner is served at a local restaurant.

Terrain: 50% off-road (dirt, rock, forest tracks), 50% secondary tarmac
      Accommodation: Hotel in Bắc Kạn
      Meals: B, L, D
  • Day 6: Bac Kan – Hanoi ~200 km (B/L)

    • Our final ride back to Hanoi is relaxed and scenic. The morning takes us through quiet farmland valleys, weaving between small hamlets on narrow local roads and short dirt links. These are gentle trails—perfect for unwinding after several demanding days.

After lunch, we follow peaceful provincial roads southward, eventually merging with wider roads as we approach Hanoi. We return to the city in the late afternoon, ending the loop with a final coffee or cold drink together.

Terrain: 30% off-road connectors, 70% small provincial roads
      Accommodation: Not included
      Meals: B, L
