Day 1: Drive from Hanoi to Vu Linh ~ 170km ( L/D )
You take a car from Hanoi and go 18 kilometres to Vu Linh. Driving between the two locations will take around 5 hours. On the journey, you pass through the Red River, where you can see the surrounding countryside, which is covered in huge rice fields and tree-covered areas. You can't help but be surprised when you see the people's daily lives here. It appears to be different from the hectic and chaotic atmosphere of Hanoi.
Continue your journey before stopping at Viet Tri or Doan Hung town for lunch at a local restaurant. After a little break, you resume your journey and arrive at Vu Linh in the late afternoon. You will spend the night at the Yao people's stilt house.

Day 2: Drive from Vu Linh to Ha Giang ~ 180km (B/L/D)
The second day will be fantastic as you drive for 5 hours to Ha Giang, which is 180 kilometres from Vu Linh. Due to its karst plateaus and towering cliffs, this area leaves a lasting impression on both local and foreign travellers. You must overcome a number of steep turns while on the move. A pleasant journey around Thac Ba lake will take you through various ethnic villages worth visiting. Lunch is served at Tuyen Quang Town.
Keep driving to Ha Giang, where you will stay overnight in the home of an ethnic family. Ethnic minorities such as Yao, Hmong, Tay, and Nung live here as well. Visiting Ha Giang is a wonderful chance to learn more about ethnic cultures and traditions.

Day 3: Drives to Dong Van and Meo Vac ~ 180km (B/L/D)
Today's 180-kilometre (7-hour) journey via Dong Van and Meo Vac is the highlight of the trip. When visiting Ha Giang, you must not miss the opportunity to visit the Dong Van Karst Plateau, which is nearly entirely covered with limestone and has been recognized as a UNESCO Global Geopark. On your way to Dong Van Karst Plateau, you may stop in the centre to see Dong Van Old Quarter, where you can admire the remarkable architecture that has survived for thousands of years. When exploring this place, you may also learn about numerous regional cultures.
Besides Dong Van Karst Plateau, you go on a journey through the Heaven Gate in Quan Ba, Vuong Family Palace, and Ma Pi Leng Pass before arriving at the ultimate destination - Meo Vac town before nightfall.

Day 4: Drive from Meo Vac to Ba Be ~ 180km (B/L/N)
After breakfast, you drive about 180 kilometres from Meo Vac to Ba Be. You will acquire a lot of great experiences over the 6 hours of travelling. You may admire the surrounding mountainous terrain and the charming beauty of the Nho Que River while passing various passes along the trip. You next drive to a small restaurant in Bao Lac for lunch. After leaving Bao Lac, you drive 30 kilometres on paved roads before getting into a wooded track. You also go on off-road adventures to cross rivers and streams.
Finally, you arrive at Ba Be Lake, which is surrounded by spectacular nature. You will also get the opportunity to live in a homestay where you will have dinner with a Tay family and stay here for one night.

Day 5: Explore Ba Be before driving to Cao Bang ~ 130km (B/L/N)
Ba Be Lake, located in Ba Be National Park, is Vietnam's greatest natural lake. Majestic mountains and lush forests surround the lake. It also serves as a residential area for ethnic communities. If you want to learn about the local culture, you can go to a local market. One of the most exciting activities you should not miss is a boat ride around Ba Be Lake. Then you'll be ecstatic as you gaze out at the breathtaking surroundings of Ba Be National Park.
After that, you return to the local guesthouse for lunch before continuing to Cao Bang. You arrive in this town after 4 hours of driving and spend the night here.

Day 6: Back to Hanoi from Cao Bang ~ 290km (B/L)
On the last day of the self-drive 4x4 car tour, you have to drive from Cao Bang to Hanoi for around 6 hours. On the way back to Hanoi, you take many off-road routes before passing through the Red River Delta. Along the trip, you will meet many people from many ethnic groups, including Hmong, Yao, Tay, and Nung. The tour is over.
