Mai Chau - Pu Luong trekking 3 days 2 nights

Tour code: NA14E
Duration: 3 days 2 nights
Route: Hanoi - Mai Chau - Pu Luong - Kho Muong

  • Day 1: Hanoi - Mai Chau - Pu Luong (L/D)
    • Your guide will collect you at your hotel in Hanoi after breakfast and we’ll depart for Hoa Binh Province, which lies just 80km west of Hanoi. On the way we’ll make a stop at a local market before continuing towards Mai Chau Valley and stopping in the village of Pom Coong for a bit of rest and lunch in a typical Thai house built on stilts.

After lunch, we’ll go for a hike through the Pu Luong Reserve, walking amidst rice fields and mountains, and crossing small villages where we’ll get to see the traditional daily life of the locals all around us in this natural paradise. You’ll get an even closer look at this when we have dinner and spend the night with a local family in one of the Thai stilt houses.

      - A 5-7 km off the beatn track hike.

  • Day 2: Trek To Kho Muong Village (B/L/D)
    • On the second day we have an optional activity for those that don’t mind rising early. If you get up before sunrise, you can enjoy watching it ascend over the mountain tops, as local farmers hustle around doing their early morning activities. You can even join in for a little while to get a true taste for rural Vietnamese life.

Whether you participate in this or not, you’ll enjoy breakfast made by the local Thai people you’re staying with, before starting the 5-6 hours of trekking we have planned for you. The first stretch is the hardest, containing some steep climbs and exciting river crossings, but you will be well rewarded as the next stretch is easier, and you’ll get to see absolutely stunning views of the valley and rice terraces, rainforests and streams within from your high vantage point. Certainly on of the best off the beaten tracks in Vietnam !

A picnic lunch will be served when you reach Hin Village, before continuing on to Hieu Village, considered by many to be the most aesthetically beautiful rural village in all of Vietnam.

Finally we’ll reach Kho Muong village, where you can spend your time freely, either by strolling around the village and talking to locals, or relaxing in the eco homestay set up by FFI (Flora and Fauna International) in conjunction with the local communities. The total trekking you will have done to get here is around 12-15 kilometres.

At night you’ll have time to drink and socialize with the friendly locals amidst the tranquil ambiance of Kho Muong, before turning in for the night in a traditional Thai style stilt house.

      - A 12-15 km trek.

  • Day 3: Mai Chau - Hanoi (B/L)
    • For your final day it’s time for another 3 hours of trekking, or around 5 to 7 kilometres. Starting with a nice easy stretch, giving you a chance to relax and connect with your surroundings, as well as warming you up for the challenges ahead.

After a short rest in Ban Hieu Village, you’ll conquer some steep climbs and even more thrilling river crossings, before the valley opens up into fantastic views from your elevated position. Once you’ve spent enough time to enjoy these sights, we’ll move on to Pho Doan Village.

Here we’ll take some more time to rest, before heading to the main road where your driver will be waiting to take you back to Hanoi. We’ll stop for lunch along the way, and you’ll arrive at your hotel in Hanoi in the late afternoon.

      - A 5-7km walk.

Pu Luong rice paddy fields trekking
Review of: Mai Chau - Pu Luong trekking 3 days 2 nights
Did the 3 day Pu Luong trekking with Long. Cost was 390USD per pax and it was worth every bit of it.

We chose Pu Luong as we didn't want a touristy location. What we got was an experience like no other.

1. The accommodations were fantastic. Kinda makes you feel like you got a superb discount for them. We had 2 nights at 2 different home stays and both were amazing. But do bring some insect repellants as there's quite a bit of mozzies.

3. The views were breathtaking. We went through so many places and saw such amazing sights. Worth every cent we paid. Read Less

Amazing trip to Mai Chai and Pu Luong!
Review of: Trekking Mai Chau - Pu Luong 3 days 2 nights
This tour was truly unforgettable! Mr. Loi and Mr. Long we’re wonderful guides. Mr.Loi was very knowledgeable about local ways of life and the different plants in the area, which was fascinating to learn about. My husband got sick on the trip and Mr. Loi was very helpful re-arranging the routes so that we had easier treks with lots of breaks. Mr. Long was a fantastic driver. He was great with us making lots of stops to see sights and views, and we always felt safe with him even on ...Read Morethe more treacherous roads. 3 day / 2 night Mai Chau - Pu Luong National Park
Review of: Mai Chau - Pu Luong trekking 3 days 2 nights
We found the tour online after researching Pu Luong National Park. All the booking was really easy and Kevin responded to all queries immediately including a last minute change in collection.

We were picked up in Hanoi at exactly the time informed. Our tour guide Huy introduced himself and told us the plan for the day. The bus was comfortable and we stopped a couple of times on the way. Huy helped us try some sticky rice cooked by the local people and explanined the histor
...Read Morey. We travelled with our two girls aged 7 and 9 and Huy made them feel really comfortable.

Once in Mai Chau we were picked up by our home stay family by motorbike which was really exciting for the kids (and us!)

The homestay was fantastic and in a very beautiful village. The accommodation was much better than expected and we had a lovely room in a traditional stilt house.

The food throughout was cooked by our homestay family and was fantastic and really varied.

Huy was great at adapting the itinerary to suit our family. We did lots of activities including cycling, walking and going on motorbikes! Huy managed to get bikes for the girls and was really patient and went at a pace to suit us. Whilst there were lots of activities to see the amazing scenery, there was also lots of down time so we could enjoy the culture. Our girls made friends with some local Vietnamese children which was really special to watch.

Our homestay family did not speak English but we could communicate through hand gestures, smiles and footballer names! Huy helped translate when needed and whenever we needed to buy anything from the local shops.

We would highly recommend the trip and Huy was fantastic. He even offered to show us round some local street food places once back in Hanoi which was so much fun and visited places we never would have found.

Thanks you so much Mr Linh adventures and Huy for looking after us so well 😀 Read Less

A great little trek to Pu Luong
Review of: Mai Chau - Pu Luong trekking 3 days 2 nights
We did a 2 night 3 day trek to Pu Luong with homestays and plenty of walking. Our guide, Huy, did a great job looking out for our safety, providing insight and information and generally creating a fun time. Our driver was safe and friendly too! The homestay with Mr. Nam was a true highlight and the scenery was amazing! If Sapa is a little too far or too touristy this trip is for you!
