Routing: Hanoi – Sapa – Lai Chau – Muong Lay – Dien Bien – Tuan Giao – Son La – Moc Chau – Mai Chau
Tour Style: Nature, Culture & History Tour
Tour Start: in Hanoi / Tour End: in Mai Chau
Trip duration: 10 Days 9 Nights
No. of guests: Variable of pax

  • Day 1: Hanoi - Lao Cai - Sapa (L/D) | Distance: 25–40 km. Elevation: +850 m / -420 m

    • We leave Hanoi behind and point the van north, letting the lowlands fade as the road starts to climb. By the time we reach Sapa, the air is crisper, the light is softer, and the mountains are already whispering. If you're feeling fresh, we'll do a short orientation spin, just enough to wake up the legs, test the gears, and let the cool valley air fill your lungs. No pressure. Just arrival.

Dinner tonight is simple, local, and shared with the people who know these hills best.

  • Day 2: Sapa - Y Linh Ho - Mountain Valley Ride (B/L/D) | Distance: 35–55 km. Elevation: +1,120 m / -1,150 m

    • Today, we ride for real. Not to conquer, but to connect. We drop into the valleys below Sapa, following mountain roads and quiet lanes that pass Hmong settlements, terraced slopes, and fields shaped by generations.

The terrain is playful: gentle rollers that get your heart rate up, followed by smooth descents where you can tuck in and let momentum carry you. Shift through your gears as the landscape changes: stone houses, corn fields, children waving from the roadside.

This isn't about ticking boxes. It's about feeling the place, one pedal stroke at a time.

  • Day 3: Sapa Side - Binh Lu - Lai Chau (B/L/D) | Distance: 70–95 km. Elevation: +1,450 m / -2,100 m

    • We descend toward Binh Lu, where the valley opens up and the mountains step back just enough to let you breathe.

The ride toward Lai Chau is shaped around quality, not quantity: we'll pick the most scenic sections, use the support van where it makes sense, and keep the rhythm comfortable but engaging.

You'll feel the change in the air, the shift in the light. This is a transition day, but don't let that fool you; it's one of those rides where the journey itself becomes the destination.

  • Day 4: Lai Chau - Muong Lay (B/L/D) | Distance: 70–95 km. Elevation: +800 m / -2,250 m

    • We ride south and west through a part of the northwest that few travelers see. Broad roads, mountain edges, rural settlements, this is a day for presence. You'll encounter Thai, Hmong, and other communities along the way, and the pace is yours to set.

Shift down for the rollers, spin on the flats, and trust your brakes on the descents. Certain connector sections may be shortened by the support van, so you save your energy for the roads that matter most.

Arrive in Muong Lay with that good kind of tired; the kind that comes from moving through something beautiful.

  • Day 5: Muong Lay - Dien Bien (B/L/D) | Distance: 85–105 km. Elevation: +1,150 m / -1,050 m

    • We continue toward Dien Bien through upland farming areas and open valley roads. The stage offers a combination of natural scenery and historical atmosphere. This land has stories, and you'll feel them as you ride.

The terrain is varied enough to keep your legs engaged without burning you out.

Arrive in Dien Bien with time to stretch, reflect, and watch the sunset paint the valley in shades of gold and violet.

  • Day 6: Dien Bien Countryside Loop (B/L/D) | Distance: 40–60 km. Elevation: +450 m / -450 m

    • Rather than rushing onward, we spend a day riding the quieter countryside around Dien Bien. This is where the trip deepens: village roads, agricultural routes, and lanes that take you away from the main transport axis.

You'll find your groove on the flats, shift down for the rollers, and maybe even sprint a little just because the view deserves it.

This is cycling as cultural immersion, active, unhurried, and deeply satisfying.

  • Day 7: Dien Bien - Tuan Giao (B/L/D) | Distance: 75–90 km. Elevation: +1,400 m / -1,250 m

    • We leave Dien Bien and ride into increasingly mountainous country toward Tuan Giao. This is an active day: sustained riding, changing gradients, and a growing sense of depth in the northwest interior.

The road asks for your attention: shift early for the climbs, trust your line on the descents, and let the rhythm of the mountains guide you.

You'll arrive in Tuan Giao with that quiet satisfaction of a day well-ridden.

  • Day 8: Tuan Giao - Pha Din Pass - Son La (B/L/D) | Distance: 80–95 km. Elevation: +1,650 m / -1,550 m

    • This is one of those days you'll talk about later. We ride over selected parts of the famous Pha Din Pass, a dramatic gateway through the mountains.

The road climbs and descends through magnificent terrain, with support available where needed. You'll feel the effort in your legs, the wind on your face, and the reward in the views.

As we continue toward Son La, the landscape begins to shift toward plateau country. Arrive tired but triumphant.

The pass is behind you. The plateau is ahead.

  • Day 9: Son La - Moc Chau (B/L/D) | Distance: 85–105 km. Elevation: +1,850 m / -1,200 m

    • Today's ride crosses into the greener, more open landscapes of Moc Chau. Tea hills, farms, and rolling highland scenery create a distinct mood compared with the harsher northwest ranges.

The stage is rewarding and varied: you'll settle into a rhythm on the flats, shift down for the rollers, and let the scenery unfold around you.

This is cycling as joy, active, immersive, and deeply satisfying.

  • Day 10: Moc Chau - Mai Chau (B/L/D) | Distance: 60–80 km. Elevation: +950 m / -1,800 m

    • We finish the mountain arc by riding toward Mai Chau, one of the most attractive valleys in northern Vietnam.

Depending on road choice and timing, this day may combine selected riding sections with support van transfer. But the spirit is the same: easy gears, relaxed pace, time to soak it all in.

You'll end in a softer landscape of stilt houses, rice fields, and White Thai villages; an elegant close to a truly varied mountain journey.

  • Day 11: Mai Chau - Hanoi (B/L/D) | Distance: 15–25 km. Elevation: +150 m / -150 m

    • One last morning on two wheels. We keep it short and sweet: a relaxed spin through the peaceful Mai Chau valley, cycling along quiet village paths that weave through rice paddies, bamboo groves, and traditional stilt houses.

It's the perfect cool-down: easy gears, gentle pace, time to reflect on the journey while the scenery unfolds one last time.

After the ride, we transfer back to Hanoi by vehicle. You'll arrive in the capital by afternoon, maybe a little sore, definitely changed.

You didn't just see the northwest. You rode through it, felt its rhythms, and carried its stories with you, kilometer by kilometer.
