Routing: Hanoi – Ba Be – Cao Bang – Lang Son - Ha Long - Hanoi
Tour Style: Nature, Culture & History Tour
Tour Start: in Hanoi / Tour End: in Hanoi
Trip duration: 8 Days 7 Nights
No. of guests: Variable of pax

  • Day 1: Hanoi - Ba Be National Park (L/D) | Distance: 30–50 km.  Elevation: +1,250 m / -1,180 m

    • We slip out of Hanoi after breakfast, letting the city fade into the rearview as we head north. The road unwinds through the delta (gentle rolls, green fields), the occasional water buffalo pausing to watch you pass.

After lunch, we ease into the saddle for a soft-start ride: quiet country lanes, stilt houses peeking through the trees, and the first whispers of Tay village life. It's not about power today; it's about finding your rhythm, testing the gears, and letting your body remember what freedom on two wheels feels like. We roll into our lakeside homestay as the light turns golden.

Dinner is simple, local, and shared with the people who call this place home.

  • Day 2: Cycling Around Ba Be Bake And Bay Billages (B/L/D) | Distance: 40–55 km. Elevation: +650 m / -640 m

    • Today, the lake becomes your compass. We spend the day weaving along quiet roads and village tracks that hug Ba Be's shoreline and climb gently into forested hills.

The terrain is playful: short rollers that get your heart rate up, followed by smooth descents where you can tuck in and let momentum carry you. You'll shift through gears as the landscape changes: cultivated valleys, limestone outcrops, and lakeside communities where life moves at the pace of a fishing boat.

There's no rush. Stop for photos, chat with locals, or just pause to listen to the water. This is cycling as it's meant to be: active, immersive, and deeply satisfying.

  • Day 3: Ba Be - Cao Bang (B/L/D) | Distance: 60–80 km. Elevation: +1,580 m / -1,420 m

    • We say goodbye to the lake and point the handlebars toward Cao Bang. This is a day of beautiful in-between: some sections you'll ride, others you'll cruise in the support van, so we can focus on the roads that matter most. As we climb, the scenery sharpens; limestone ridges stack up against the sky, river valleys carve through the land, and small farming villages dot the hillsides. You'll feel the change in the air, the slight chill of higher elevation.

The riding is varied enough to keep your legs engaged without burning you out. We arrive in Cao Bang with time to stretch, reflect, and watch the sunset paint the mountains in shades of violet and gold.

  • Day 4: Cao Bang - Quay Son River - Ban Gioc Waterfall (B/L/D) | Distance: 50–70 km. Elevation: +1,120 m / -1,050 m

    • This is the day you'll talk about later. We follow backroads through limestone country - quiet hamlets, terraced fields, and the ever-present hum of the Quay Son River guiding us forward.

The road has character: gentle climbs that reward you with panoramic views, then fast, technical descents where you'll want to trust your brakes and lean into the corners. As we approach Ban Gioc, the landscape opens up dramatically. Water, forest, and mountain converge into one of Vietnam's most photogenic scenes.

You'll arrive near the waterfall with time to wander, feel the mist on your face, and soak in the peaceful border atmosphere. Your legs will be tired. Your soul? Full.

  • Day 5: Ban Gioc Backroads - Lang Son (B/L/D) | Distance: 50–65 km. Elevation: +980 m / -1,150 m

    • We leave Ban Gioc behind and ride through a landscape shaped by time and terrain. The morning is all about quiet roads and slow revelations: limestone peaks rising from fertile valleys, ethnic villages where daily life unfolds at its own pace, and fields that change color with the seasons.

We mix cycling with light vehicle support to keep the day comfortable but never dull. You'll find your groove on the flats, shift down for the rollers, and maybe even sprint a little just because the view deserves it.

Lang Son welcomes us in the late afternoon; a chance to rest, refuel, and swap stories from the road.

  • Day 6: Lang Son - Ha Long (B/L/D) | Distance: 70–90 km. Elevation: +1,650 m / -1,720 m

    • Today, the horizon changes. We leave the northern borderlands and head southeast, trading mountain air for the humidity of the coast.

It's a longer travel day, but we've sprinkled in chosen cycling sections (countryside lanes, small towns, agricultural stretches), so you never lose that connection to the road.

As we approach Ha Long, the scenery opens up. You'll smell the sea before you see it. The final ride is a gentle cool-down, a chance to reflect on the week while the iconic limestone karsts of Ha Long Bay come into view.

Arrive in the late afternoon, tired but triumphant. The mountains are behind you. The sea is waiting.

  • Day 7: Ha Long Bay Cruise | Leisure. Elevation: NA/Sea level

    • Trade the saddle for the deck today. After days of effort, this is your reward: a slow drift among limestone islands, sheltered coves, and emerald water. Depending on the cruise and the weather, you might kayak through hidden lagoons, explore a cave, or simply lounge with a drink while the scenery unfolds.

No gears, no gradients, just presence. It's the perfect way to let your muscles recover while your mind catches up with the memories.

Overnight on the bay, under a sky full of stars.
  • Day 8: Ha Long - Hanoi (B/L) | Transfert

    • One last morning on the water. Enjoy a peaceful breakfast as the bay wakes up, then return to shore for the transfer back to Hanoi. You'll arrive in the capital by afternoon, maybe a little sore, definitely changed.

You didn't just see Northeast Vietnam. You felt it, rode through it, and carried it with you, kilometer by kilometer.

End of services, but not the end of the story.

Homestays in small village
Review of: Cycling Tour Through Northeast Vietnam 6 days 5 nights
We really liked the homestays in the small villages and loved the meat and vegetables. The tour activities were very well explained, and we especially appreciated the off-the-beaten-track locations. We would have preferred a less touristy spot for the last night. It was a fantastic tour overall—the cycling breaks were perfectly timed, and there was plenty of food for an active trip. We loved all of the food! The only improvement would be ensuring all bikes work well, but once that ...Read Morewas fixed, everything was perfect. We truly enjoyed the jungles, the peaceful nature, and being in quiet villages. The tour guide was friendly, respectful, and informative. Read Less
