Vietnam Airlines operates from both Madrid and Barcelona in Spain, with flights to Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City via Paris. The total flight time including the length of a typical layover is between 16 and 18 hours. With a range of other airlines operating a similar route with one stop, there are some great deals to be found in terms of flight prices. Other airlines worth looking at for flights from Spain to Vietnam include Qatar Airways, Emirates and Air France.
Spanish citizens can stay in Vietnam for up to 15 days without any visa requirements. However, visits of between 15 and 30 days do require a visa. There are multiple ways of gaining a visa for Vietnam, but by far the easiest is to apply online
for an e-visa. This can be done up to six months before travelling. There is also a Vietnam Embassy in Madrid if you’d prefer to make the application in person.
Spanish visitors to Vietnam are particularly attracted by the balmy weather during peak times of year and the ability to become immersed in South East Asian culture. According to the Hanoi Times, the number of Spanish tourists to Vietnam has been increasing by between 6% and 23% per year for the last few years.
The Spanish government also invested in sustainable tourism ventures in northern Vietnam in recent years, and the blend of nature and culture that this part of Vietnam offers is especially attractive to Spanish travellers. In the north of Vietnam, it’s possible to enjoy the café culture, street food and city life of Hanoi, before heading into the mountains around Sapa further north, close to the Chinese border.
